which had stalls by British Heart Foundation, National Institute for Care and Health, Local Co-

Speaking from the stage of the Gurdwara Sahib, Dr Angela Lennox Commander of British
Empire CBE and Deputy Lieutenant DL representing the Lord Lieutenant of Leicestershire
praised the 1995 formed Punjabi Listeners Club in organising Look After Your Health event and
bringing so many different organisations together. She said 8th
Guru Ji of the Sikhs cured
countless people during the Smallpox and Cholera pandemic in Delhi, India in the 17th
century.
Dr. Lennox also said that NHS was formed 78 years ago in 1948 and is free. It is utmost
important to look after your physical and psychological health. Dr. Lennox was presented with a
colourful photo of Sri Harmandar Sahib famously known as the Golden Temple.
Alzheimer&rsquos Research Uk&rsquos Noorie commented &ldquoThank you for inviting ARUK. We were pleased
to speak to members that visited our stall. We were able to raise awareness about Dementia,
brain health, risk factors, health checks and the importance of people getting involved with
research for treatment, diagnosis and prevention. We provided leaflets in Punjabi and English.
Thank you for the opportunity to visit you, everyone was friendly and kind. As part of our
voluntary role, we also deliver tailored workshops to community groups on Dementia.
In one of the sermons on television the head priest of Sri Bangla Sahib Gurdwara where Guru
HarKrishan Sahib Ji stayed in Delhi, said he was advised that in order to maintain good health
he should reduce the number of Chapatis he eats in Guru Ka Langar and increase the number
of vegetables. Chapatis contain carbohydrates that are converted into glucose by the body for
energy. If you reduce the number of Chapatis you eat, it can help with weight loss by lowering
your overall calorie intake.
The walk-In health Checks van outside the Gurdwara Sahib was busy from 10 am to 1.00 pm
and did measurements of Blood Pressure, Height, Weight, Body Mass Index BMI, and gave
advice about healthy eating. One simple change that we can all easily make is change from
whole milk to semi-skimmed milk.
Tarlochan Singh Virk, Co-Ordinator of Punjabi Listeners Club thanked management committee
of Sri Guru HarKrishan Sahib, the Lieutenancy Office, all the stall holders and Guru Ji Ki Sadh
Sangat for making this year&rsquos Look after Your Health event successful.
